SPECULATIVE HYBRIDS (50 sites/50 projects):
intertwining the realms of public and private

Graduate projects studying discovered sites throughout urban Orlando offer a reading of the city within the city and a means of linking, joining and intertwining the public and private realms at the scale of the citizen and the city. (fall 2004)

ORLANDO2050
: future histories and possible paths
Imagine the future. Imagine how we live, how we work, how we play.
Citi-lab proposes to build upon recently developed master planning and design guidelines to continue the study of metro Orlando in terms of the past, present and future. Where and how will the city grow? What will constitute a downtown, a neighborhood, a community?

SPRAWL

The contemporary city is both a condition and a place. The ubiquitous condition of sprawl (somewhat ironically) unites central Florida as a seemingly endless and placeless carpet of built form while simultaneously linking it in form with similarly afflicted cities throughout the US and around the globe. At the same time, Orlando offers numerous neighborhoods and communities, distinct in character and history, each offering a sense of place and belonging. Is sprawl a de-facto condition of contemporary development or an unfinished project in need of critical oversight and thoughtful critique?
